Ana Lopez - Monomyth Essay lyrics

The Epic Hero Monomyth can be seen in many movies. It consists of twelve steps. Some of these steps include call to adventure, a**istance, crisis, treasure, and etc. The epic hero monomyth is fulfilled by Star Wars and Hunger Games however; I think Hunger Games is a better example. Luke Skywalker is a great example of the epic hero monomyth. “Ain't like dusting crops boy” (Han, Star Wars). This shows the departure stage of Star Wars. Luke realizes that space travel is extremely different from his normal life. Luke feels weakened by the d**h of Obi-Wan (Star Wars). Luke enters the crisis stage after the d**h of Obi-Wan. He becomes depressed which makes it hard for him to continue. Near the end Han rejoins the group (Star Wars). This is a great example of the resolution, when everything comes together. Everyone was extremely happy to see Han again. Leia gives Luke a medal (Star Wars). This shows things starting to go back to being relatively normal. Leia is very thankful to Luke for helping her. Everyone sees him as a hero. Katniss Everden does a great job of fulfilling the epic hero monomyth. “I volunteer as tribute!” (Katniss, Hunger Games). When Katniss states this her call to adventure starts. The call to adventure is when the hero is given a quest. Katniss volunteers herself in order to prevent her sister from having to enter the games. Haymitch becomes katniss's mentor (Hunger Games). This is an example of the epic hero monomyth a**istance stage. Haymitch is giving advice to katniss on how to stay alive during the games. Katniss and Peeta are the last two people still standing (Hunger Games). This is Katniss's crisis stage. Neither one of them wants to k** the other. They both care about each other. I think Katniss Everden does a better job of fulfilling the epic hero monomyth than Luke Skywalker. Hunger Games is newer than Star Wars. I think today more people would be interested in watching Hunger Games. Also, Katniss Everden fills the epic hero monomyth extremely well. For example both Katniss and Peeta survive the games (Hunger Games). This shows the treasure stage. They both wanted to stay alive so they did. Once back in their district Katniss chooses to stay with Gale (Hunger Games). This would be considered the resolution. Everything is resolved. The epic hero monomyth is still being used. It can be found in Star Wars and in Hunger Games. Both movies are great examples of it. However, I think that for today Hunger Games is a better example.
