[Verse 1: Moshe Friedman] It used to be so easy, why did the inspiration leave me? Is there someone out there trying to tease me? Or is it human nature what we typically do To lose steam when routine's no longer different or new I remember the days when I felt so lofty Any trouble in my way, used to let it roll off me Wake up every morning, 6 o'clock, no coffee I was skating through life like pro hockey That's when I finally hit the wall (who doesn't?) Inspiration started to fall (snooze bu*ton) A few dozen, used to be on fire like the Blues Brothers Now I'm cold as a cucumber Turns out I was riding the wave of beginner's luck And now that the wave has pa**ed I'm just a sitting duck Guess it's time to settle in, a veteran Desperately trying to find his second wind [Audio sample 1: Rabbi Akiva Tatz] “All of life is an experience of newness, the thrill of newness, and just when you're maximally inspired by the thrill of newness you get let down, and only if you have the courage and insight and tenacity to go through that period of darkness, can you get back to that real light at the end that then makes you realize that the first one was only a false experience.” [Verse 2: Moshe Friedman] That second wind never came, man So I figured that I'd need a better game plan Got a routine, started jogging, started blogging Used my noggin, no more leapfrogging Set small goals and worked long and hard Every time I gained an inch, I lost a yard
But the real things are worth sweat A journey of a thousand miles and I just took my first step [Audio clip 2: Rabbi Akiva Tatz] “And only if you survive through the darkness does the second light shine on you, but you shine the second. When you make it happen the second time, it is you.” [Verse 3: Moshe Friedman] It used to be so easy, isn't life supposed to be easy? That's how it looks on movies and on TV When things get hard doesn't everybody bounce back? I'm still waiting on my montage and soundtrack I almost can't do hard things without that So hooked on instant gratification So addicted to that sweet inspiration It's like I gotta go to rehabilitation It's Generation Now, that's why they like to say We don't even have patience for a microwave We play Guitar Hero ‘stead of rock n' roll And FIFA ‘stead of practicing our soccer goal That inspiration, it was making my day But I feel so blessed that it was taken away Cuz when there's no defense, there's no goal in the game And with bumpers, who cares if you can bowl in the lane? It was nice to see the big picture like a puzzle box But that was just a spark to get the oven hot In my life, I'm gonna earn the right to stand out So give me hard work and you can keep the handouts [Audio clip 3: Rabbi Akiva Tatz] “Imagine you could live for one day as the person that you would be if you worked on yourself intensely for twenty years. Imagine the inspiration.”
