Aaron Dillard - The Opposite lyrics

Honestly, I don't understand what's going on in the media why is it that when a lion dies, it gets more televised recognition than my dead brother okay, I know we don't have the same mom and dad but Africa is our mother Why is it that there is no debate about why someone can generate so much hate just because of skin especially because it means nothing more than a type of hair and amount of melanin We all come from the same place We are all people so why is it taking so long for everyone to be equal? Is it the greed from the past people that considered my ancestors property to make themselves richer and fatter? Or the news reporters that refuse to show the murders of hundreds of innocent people, but show destructive idiocy and blame it on “black lives matter” I live in fear that someone may k** me because I'm in the wrong place in the wrong time or that I'll need to yell “don't shoot” if a crooked police officer stops me and I speak my mind Or the thought if I did go down, my k**er could be acquitted America is full of racism, but the majority doesn't want to admit it The truth is, If I don't have role models except for the people I see on TV dressed as a rapper ,an athlete or a thug, showing me that the way to make it in this world is to rap a lyric, dribble a ball, or sell d** and the first black president when I've already been misconstrued and my father can be k**ed by a cop for selling cigarettes, what do you think I'm supposed to do? And because my ancestors were owned as slaves we couldn't gain generational wealth In reality, when they were unshackled from their chains, they didn't have enough money for themselves And the fact that I look around and see 3 teachers that look like me but hundreds of negative influences in the media “making” it, so who do you think I'll want be? The media tells me what you think of me But I've chosen to be… the opposite
